Waking up to a little Snark

Good morning! Here's a tiny snippet for Saturday Snark from my Goodreads Hot Summer Reads piece. My first attempt at fanfic resulted from the glorious image of Batman holding a naked guy.

"Okay, out you go." I reached over and tugged the blindfold off, then pushed open his door. If I leaned into him while doing it... well, despite rumors to the contrary—and my history with women—I'm only human.

Dale looked small inside the big space of The Cave. He also looked cold—and I needed to regain my equilibrium. "Hmm. Guess the little guy needs a blankie, huh?"

Dale had been staring, starstruck, at all the equipment and furnishings I had spread around. As soon as my comment registered, his head jerked around, and I was treated to a blistering glare. "Hey, asshole! You try walking around buck naked in the middle of winter and see how your jimmy looks!"

I smothered a laugh. "It's almost May."

What a great week for the It Gets Better Project

This past week, I was hosted on Mrs. Condit's blog. She and her co-host, Lady McNeill, donated $100 to It Gets Better, and generated lots of goodwill and comments on behalf of the project.

We gave away one of my books each day, except our opening day, when Mrs. C encouraged readers to buy a copy of The Book of Wisdom, where all proceeds go to IGB, and Torquere makes a matching donation.

Thank you, Mrs. Condit and Lady McNeill, for your generosity, and for the great week on your blog. It was a blast!

Join me on Mrs. Condit Reads Books

This whole week, Mrs. Condit is hosting me and reviewing some of my books. She is an amazingly gracious hostess, and in fact, is contributing to the It Gets Better Project for each comment made on her review of The Book of Wisdom. This book was part of the 2011 Torquere Press Charity Sip Blitz, and all proceeds go to the Project, with a match from Torquere. You can help by commenting on the 1/16 post, plus you can win a copy of my books by commenting on current posts.

more Snark from A Change of Pace

Drew and Ridge are at odds with each other in this scene, helped along by a surprise visit from Drew's parents. Ridge is a little pissed as we begin.

"So now that your mama and daddy are here, you're going to deny it? You're going to hide?"

Christ, the bastard could sound unfriendly. "I'm not hiding. I don't hide!"

"Uh-huh. Now, why don't I believe you?" The Carolina drawl was really deep now. Cornpone territory. And that was definitely a smirk on the sexy face. "You're hiding in plain sight right now." Ridge walked over to stand next to Charles. The whiskey-brown eyes stared at Drew, daring him to deny it.

His father decided to weigh in again. "If it's still that Danny character who's bothering you, son, you've got to let that go."

"Dad!" Christ, Danny was a million years ago.

"My mother used to say, the best way to get over somebody is to get under somebody," Yvonne chimed in. She jerked her head in Ridge's direction and rolled her eyes toward him.

"Mom!" Nearly strangling on the word, Drew stared at his mother in shock. He could hear suspicious coughing coming from both his father and Ridge, and he whirled to stare at them with the evil eye. "I do not give a red rat's ass about Danny!"

His father's brows went up at that.

"I don't give a rat's ass about him, either, so we're making progress, then. What do you think, Mr. Stratton?" Ridge nodded companionably at Drew's dad, then brought that determined gaze back, those damned eyes lasering in on his discomfort.

Shit.

"Call me Chuck, son. I think we're going to be close,
don't you?"
